Most people looking for a cleaner search on their phone, often in a spare minute, and compare two or three companies at once. If your page takes too long to show, they tap back and call the next company on the list. For a cleaning business, speed isn’t a technical detail: it decides whether your quote form ever gets seen.
Why Speed Matters for a Cleaning Company
A slow website costs you in two ways. The first is visitors: the longer a page takes to load, the more people give up before they see your prices, your reviews or your quote form. On a phone, a few extra seconds are enough to lose someone who was ready to book.
The second is rankings. Google uses page experience, including speed, as one of its signals, and it measures it with data from real visitors. Speed alone won’t put you at the top, but when two cleaning companies are otherwise close, the faster, easier site has the edge.
The good news: most cleaning company websites are slow for the same few reasons, and most of them can be fixed without rebuilding anything.
How to Test Your Site in a Minute
You don’t need special software. Two free tools from Google tell you most of what you need:
PageSpeed Insights. Paste in your home page and your main service page, and look at the mobile results first. At the top you’ll see data from real visitors (if your site has enough traffic), and below it a lab test with specific suggestions.
Search Console. The Core Web Vitals report shows which groups of pages are slow on real phones and computers, based on the last 28 days.
Test the pages that bring in quotes: the home page, your top service pages and the quote or booking page. A fast home page doesn’t help much if the booking page is slow.
What the Three Numbers Mean
Google sums up speed with three Core Web Vitals. You’ll see them in both tools:
| Metric | What it measures | Good |
|---|---|---|
| LCP | What it measuresHow long until the biggest thing on screen (usually the hero photo or the headline) appears | GoodUnder 2.5 seconds |
| INP | What it measuresHow quickly the page reacts when someone taps a button or types in the quote form | GoodUnder 200 milliseconds |
| CLS | What it measuresHow much the layout jumps while the page loads | GoodUnder 0.1 |
On cleaning websites, LCP is often the one to fix first: the culprit is usually a large hero photo of a sparkling kitchen, uploaded straight from a camera.
What Usually Slows Cleaning Websites Down
Common slowdowns
6 to look forHuge photos. Before-and-after shots and team photos uploaded at full camera size, several megabytes each, with no WebP or AVIF versions.
Sliders and background videos. A rotating hero slider or an autoplay video loads a lot before the visitor sees anything useful.
Third-party widgets. Chat bubbles, review widgets, booking tools and tracking codes that all load on every page.
Too many plugins. Page builders and add-ons that load their own scripts and styles everywhere, even where they aren’t used.
Slow hosting. A server that takes a second or more to answer before the page even starts loading.
Layout jumps. Images without set sizes and late-loading banners that push the quote button down just as someone tries to tap it.
Quick Fixes to Ask For
If someone manages your website, these are the fixes worth asking for first. Most of them take hours, not weeks:
compress and resize images, and serve them as WebP or AVIF;
load images further down the page only when the visitor scrolls to them (lazy loading);
replace the hero slider or video with one strong photo;
load chat and review widgets after the page has shown, or only on the pages that need them;
remove plugins you no longer use;
give every image and embed a fixed size, so nothing jumps;
turn on caching and a CDN, or move to better hosting.
After each change, test again with PageSpeed Insights. The real-visitor data in Search Console covers the last 28 days, so give it a few weeks before you judge.
When a Fix Isn’t Enough
Sometimes the platform itself is the problem: a heavy theme, a page builder that adds scripts everywhere, or a booking system that can’t be sped up. Then patching keeps costing more than starting over. A website built for speed from the start, with light pages, optimized images and clean code, stays fast as you add services and cities. That’s how we build our websites.
